A great guitar at a low price
I bought this Fender Squier Bullet because I wanted to make a cheap scalloped guitar. So I searched the cheapest Squier available on the market. I know that many people do not like Squier guitars. I already had one, and tried lots of others, and I’ve always loved playing them. These are not genuine Fender of course but given the price they are excellent guitars.
I have to admit that I am extremely surprised by the quality of the Fender Squier Bullet Strat HSS. I have a real Fender Stratocaster, and I do not see much difference in quality between the two. This guitar is extremely fun to play. Very loud, probably due to the basswood body that is amazingly light. The neck is really thin, straight and enjoyable to play.
The typical Fender sound is present despite the Humbunker and string’s setting perfectly done, which is rare for low priced guitars, and even more expensive ones too.
Anyway, I have long hesitated to pursue my goal to make a scalloped guitar. I will come back about it in another post soon. Owning a strat already helped me to decide to pursue my first idea, and I am very happy with the result.
Back on topic.
I wanted to record a tune with this guitar before turning her into a scalloped instrument. I composed a song expressly for her, a slow Funk that you can hear in the video just below.
The song was written with a very light orchestration on purpose for you to hear the strat precisely.
It consist of four tracks: A drum track, a bass track and two Squier Bullet Strat HSS tracks. The backing track is made with a clear sound in fourth position and the solo part is played in fifth position with a distorted sound.
As you can hear, the strat sound is indeed present.
The only downside I could observe on this guitar is the lack of shielding that is heard when you are in an intermediate position on the pickups. That is to say, in second and fourth position when playing with distortion on, or any other boosting effect such as a compressor or booster. There is a slight background noise and you can hear a click when changing microphone position if the distortion pedal is on. This problem will be resolved quickly after placing a sheet of self-adhesive copper shielding under the pick guard. It is extremely easy to do and really cheap as well.
I highly recommend this guitar, and not only to beginner. This is truly a very good guitar. The low price has nothing to do with my appreciation of the instrument. I have already tried much more expensive Fender Mexican strats that do not get close to that one.
Keys hold the tuning really well. The legendary ergonomics of the Stratocaster and its perfect balance are identical to a real U.S strat.
HSS, means mounting microphones instruments. Real Stratocasters are equipped with single coil pickups only, the most modern strat line, also called “fat” strat has a humbucker in the bridge position.
H stands for humbucker and S for single coil.
