chez razadeI formed this new group because the septet formula septet was far too difficult to find gigs for. There was not enough place to play for such a large group. Tired of repeating for nothing, on top of the difficulty to bring everyone together for a mere repetition were right about me.

This CD was also recorded at the studio harmony in Longueuil. In their new facilities. We recorded the CD in two days and mixed it in one day on 24 tracks. That was in 1990 before studios were equipped with computers. The 24 track tapes were huge and extremely dear.

Some pieces of the septet time were taken, but the majority of new songs were written for the combo in a jazz-rock approach.

Quartet lineup:

Herve Senni:Guitar, composition , arrangement

Pierre Bonin: Keyboards

Alain Picotte: Bass

Mario Di Blasio: Drums

Herve Senni Quartet – Chez Razade

Si Senor: Latin-inspired song, based on the shaker’s groove. I wrote this song the day before the studio session. It was composed to serve as the opening track.

Aloes Shuffle: The bravura of the CD. The song features an atonal theme followed by a free jazz guitar solo with a rock guitar sound. Mario made an amazing drums solo in that one right after the guitar solo.

Chez Razade: based on an Eastern scale. I like the spirit that we have succeeded in creating in this piece, mostly due to Mario’s brushes rhythm.

Potion Magique: The quartet Version of my “hit” 😉 already interpreted by the septet lineup.

Los Tabarnakos: Ambitious song in two parts. The piano chart that I wrote in the second movement is almost unplayable. Pierre Bonin deeply hated me at the time. Los Tabarnakos is the nickname that residents of Florida give to Quebec tourists.

Au Fond Du Couloir a Gauche: Quartet version, already interpreted in by the septet group.

Pain Killer: Funk songs extremely fast after a lovely solo intro by Pierre Bonin.

You can download songs on my ReverbNation page for the modest sum of $ 1.29 a piece.
